Police rescue 4-day-old baby dumped inside church toilet

 

The police in Marani, Kisii County, Kenya, were able to rescue a newborn baby girl who had been left in a pit latrine within the Rioma Catholic Church compound.

The Public Police Administration (NPS) said the child assessed to be four days old was recovered from the lavatory by cops from Rioma Police headquarters on Tuesday, April 18.

This occurred after a local reported hearing a baby crying in the latrine around 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday to the police.

The following was stated in a police statement:

“A member of the public reported that there was a voice of an infant coming from a pit latrine within the Rioma Catholic Church compound, and police at Rioma Police Station responded.”

“OCS and Officials from the station answered quickly to the scene, roughly 1.4km from the station, obliterated the pit restroom and saved a female baby assessed to be four days old.”

The child was in good health when the police took her to Marani Level 4 Hospital and gave her to the Sub-county Chief Nursing Officer. The statement also stated;

Through its specialized Child Protection Units, NPS is committed to the protection of children in Kenya in the child’s best interest. We commend the member of the public who provided the information that enabled the prompt rescue of the baby and wish the baby girl safety and health.

Examinations concerning the occurrence are progressing.
