An American father killed himself after killing his five children, wife, and mother-in-law. In a suicide note, he confessed that he’d rather “rot in hell” than deal with a “manipulative” wife.

On January 4, 42-year-old Michael Haight shot and killed his wife, her mother, and the couple’s five children after being investigated for child abuse.

Bodycam footage of the shooting has also been made public by the city of Enoch and the local police. The footage shows the officers making their way to the family’s house while their bodies are still inside.

Haight, a father from the United States, killed his five children, wife, and mother-in-law before taking his own life after writing a note in which he claimed he had been driven to violence by his wife Tausha. Despite the fact that investigations revealed that his wife was the one who was abused in the family, he carried out this action.

‘This is garbage and I can’t deal with it for another day. We won’t be a hindrance to society. Haight wrote, “You wouldn’t listen to my requests for assistance.” I would rather die in hell than endure this control and manipulation for another day.

Additionally killed by Haight were his girls Macie, Briley, Sienna, and children Ammon and Gavin, as well as Tausha’s mom Gail Mid, 78.

When he killed Tausha and the rest of their family, she and her controlling husband had planned to file for divorce.

Haight’s lawyer, Matt Munson, didn’t quickly answer demand for input Friday.

The report is based on documents that were made public after the murder-suicide. These documents describe how Haight removed firearms from the house, was investigated for child abuse, and searched online for “gunshot in a house” prior to the shootings.

According to case documents obtained by the Deseret News through a public records request from the Utah Division of Child and Family Services, caseworkers were present at the Haight residence in the small town of Enoch on December 19, two weeks before Michael Haight shot and killed his wife, their five children, and the mother of his wife before taking his own life.

The abuse of the couple’s oldest daughter in the past had prompted the agency to begin the investigation 11 days earlier.

The daughter, Macie, told caseworkers that her dad would tower over her and her siblings and get close to make them feel intimidated.

‘Dad jumps to react to anything he doesn’t like,’ said Macie, the records show. ‘He yells a lot and wants to make sure they know he is right.’

A previously released police search warrant returned revealed that a search of Michael Haight’s phone showed he searched Google with the question, ‘can you hear a gunshot in a house.’

He also researched how loud 9mm and 40mm guns were. Relatives have also said Haight had previously taken guns from the home, leaving his wife and mother-in-law unable to defend themselves.
